Exex, desde el punto de vista estilístico, es una novela inclasificable que mezcla los géneros negro y erótico, y que nos evoca, bajo la presencia de una protagonista surreal, una estética cercana a las historias de cómic. Es, por tanto, un experimento narrativo postmoderno en busca de la esencia artística, y bajo dicho parámetro debemos abordarla.

Su protagonista es una bella top-model (cuyo nombre da título a esta novela), que viaja con 19 años recién cumplidos a la ciudad de Nueva York, con la intención de triunfar en el mundo de la moda y la publicidad. Pero ella, para su profesión (y para el resto de las personas), no es una mujer normal pues posee un extraño atributo, algo que marca su diferencia con las demás, un estigma que la hace genuina. Y es que Exex, en contraste con su belleza descomunal, tiene un gran bigote de color marrón. Y aquí aparece la imagen inédita para una protagonista que, a lo largo de la historia, vivirá una serie de experiencias dominadas por el fracaso amoroso, el sexo y la violencia, en una espiral del destino, sorpresivo e inevitable, que hasta la última página del libro no será develado.

Exex está narrada en tercera persona, bajo una mirada irónica que busca el humor negro y con un cuidadoso análisis psicológico de los personajes. Un cóctel literario que nos remite a novelas como Con las mujeres no hay manera y Que se mueran los feos, de Boris Vian, a Las once mil vergas, de Guillaume Apollinaire, y al cine de David Lynch y a autores como Raymond Chandler y Dashiell Hammett.
